What is GitOps?

GitOps relies on Git repositories as the authoritative source for managing infrastructure as code. The submitted code undergoes validation and testing through the CI process, while the CD process verifies and enforces criteria such as security measures, infrastructure as code best practices, and application deployment specifications.

In the above example, I have demonstrated a small architecture that serves as an illustration of GitOps.

GitOps is a powerful operational framework that extends the best practices of DevOps, commonly utilized in application development, to the realm of infrastructure automation. This approach incorporates fundamental principles like version control, collaboration, compliance, and the integration of CI/CD tools, enabling efficient and reliable management of infrastructure-as-code workflows.

In my example, I have used an Azure DevOps repository; however, different code repositories can also be utilized.

So what is Azure DevOps?
